Repairing a persiana (a roller shutter) costs on average between 70 and 150 € in 2026, according to Cronoshare. Replacing the strap or the strap winder costs 30-60 €, replacing a few slats 50-100 € and the motor of an electric shutter 200-500 €. Motorising a manual shutter, 150-350 €, according to Habitissimo. These are market ranges, not our rates.
The part is hardly ever the expensive bit. In the CYPE price database, used to cost building work in Spain, the strap and winder kit costs 15 €. What you pay for is the visit, opening the box at the top and leaving everything adjusted so the shutter goes up straight.
Below you have each fault with its price and where it comes from, and how to tell which one you have by watching what the shutter does.
How much does it cost to repair a persiana?
| Fault | Guide price 2026 | What is done |
|---|---|---|
| New strap | 30-60 € | new strap down to the box in the wall; with a built-in shutter box or urgency, 80-100 € |
| New strap winder | 30-60 € | the box on the wall that winds the strap, with its spring |
| One to three new slats | 50-100 € | the shutter comes out at the top, the broken slats are swapped and it goes back in |
| New axle | 70-150 € | the tube at the top the shutter rolls onto, with its supports |
| New guide rails | 80-150 € | the side rails, when they are bent or loose |
| New tubular motor for an electric shutter | 200-500 € | new motor inside the axle, limit adjustment and connection |
| Motorising a manual shutter | 150-350 € | motor inside the axle, switch or remote and power to the box |
| Valencia and l'Horta | the same ranges | in the towns, ask whether travel is charged separately |
Source: the first six rows, from Cronoshare's page on what it costs to repair a persiana (31 December 2025); motorising, from Habitissimo's guide to automating shutters (15 September 2026). The CYPE technical references are linked in each section.
Cronoshare adds travel: between 10 and 25 € flat per area, or a price per kilometre. That is why a repair of 30 € in parts and labour rarely stays at 30 € on the invoice.

Which part has failed, by what the shutter does
Before asking for a price, look at what it does. Each symptom points to a part, and whoever quotes will ask.
- The strap is frayed or has snapped: strap. It is the most common fault, because the strap rubs against the slot in the wall every day.
- You pull the strap and it doesn't rewind by itself, or it stays slack: strap winder. The spring inside has broken or come loose.
- The whole shutter has dropped and won't go up, even though the strap is fine: a fallen shutter. The pieces joining it to the axle have broken.
- There are snapped or bent slats, or slats sliding out at one side: slats.
- It goes up crooked, always jams at the same point or rubs a lot: guide rails, or slats that have shifted to one side.
- It makes a noise at the top, creaks or jerks: the axle or its supports.
- It is electric and does nothing when you press, or hums and doesn't move: the motor, or before that the switch or the remote.
If the shutter is electric and doesn't respond, check the cheap things first: that the RCD hasn't tripped and, if it has a remote, change the battery.
Replacing the strap and the strap winder
It is the smallest repair and the one most often requested. Cronoshare puts it at 30-60 € with the part, and at 80-100 € if the box is built into the wall or if it's urgent.
The part costs little. In CYPE, the strap and winder kit for a roller shutter costs 15 €. What takes time is opening the box at the top, which in many flats is a cover screwed on from inside the room, hooking the new strap onto the axle pulley and adjusting the winder tension so the shutter doesn't drop by itself.
If you fancy doing it yourself, two warnings. First: lower the shutter all the way before undoing anything, or it rolls up in one go. Second: the winder spring is under tension and lashes out if it is opened carelessly. If the box is built in, has plaster around it or you don't know how it opens, it is better to have someone do it.
When you change the strap, make it the same width as the slot in the wall. A wider strap rubs and frays within months.
A fallen roller shutter: what it is and what it costs
A fallen shutter is one that has dropped entirely inside the guide rails and won't go up. The strap and winder can be perfect: what has broken is the joint between the first slat and the axle at the top, small plastic or metal pieces that crack over the years. Sometimes the top slat itself breaks.
It is fixed by opening the box, lifting the shutter by hand and fitting new clips to the axle. If a slat snapped when it fell, it is replaced at the same time. Cronoshare puts replacing one to three slats at 50-100 €, and it is the closest reference for this repair: the visit, opening the box and a few small parts.
Until it is fixed, don't force the strap to try to raise it: the winder breaks and you have two repairs instead of one.
Slats, axle and guide rails
Broken slats are replaced without replacing the shutter. The shutter is taken out through the box, the broken slats are slid out to one side, the new ones go in and it is refitted. Cronoshare gives 50-100 € for one to three. Watch the model: the new slat has to be the same height and material, or it won't hook onto its neighbours.
The axle is the tube at the top that the shutter rolls onto. It is replaced when it is bent or when its supports, which hold it at each side of the box, have broken and the shutter creaks or jerks. Cronoshare puts it at 70-150 €.
The guide rails are the channels the shutter runs down. If one is bent by a knock or has come away from the wall, the shutter jams or goes up crooked. Replacing them costs 80-150 €, according to Cronoshare. Before replacing them, sometimes straightening and refixing them is enough, and that is a good deal cheaper.
Electric shutter: replacing the tubular motor
In an electric shutter the motor sits inside the axle, which is why it is called tubular. When it fails, the axle comes out, the motor is replaced, the limits are set again so the shutter stops at the right point at the top and bottom, and it is connected.
Cronoshare gives 200-500 € to replace a tubular motor. Habitissimo, in its 2026 guide, puts repairing the motor of an automatic shutter at around 270 €, although the same guide shows figures of up to 600 € for replacing the motor. The difference is size: a small bedroom shutter takes a low-power motor, and a large living-room or wooden one needs a stronger, more expensive one.
Before replacing the motor, get confirmation that it is the motor. A broken switch or a remote with a flat battery give the same symptom for much less money.
Motorising a manual roller shutter: what it costs
Motorising means replacing the strap and winder with a tubular motor inside the axle, with a wall switch or a remote. Habitissimo puts it at 150-350 € per shutter, with an average of 250 €, and explains that a wall switch is the cheapest and a remote or phone control costs more.
The technical reference helps show what that price is made of. In CYPE, a PVC roller shutter with an electric motor costs 136.00 € per m² of direct cost before VAT, against 44.80 € with a strap. Almost all the difference is the motor kit, which CYPE puts at 100 €, plus 0.173 hours of electrician per m².
That electrician is the part people forget. The motor needs power in the box. If there is no junction box nearby to take it from, a cable has to be run, and that can mean a small chase in the wall. Ask beforehand, because it is what pushes the quote up most. If the consumer unit needs work too, the prices for that part are in what an electrician charges in Valencia.
If you are going to motorise several shutters, do them all at once: travel and the electrical work are paid once and not per shutter.
Repair the shutter or replace it?
For a strap or a strap winder, repairing is clearly cheaper. For the axle or several slats, the gap narrows, and it is worth asking for both prices.
The reference for comparison: CYPE puts a new PVC slatted roller shutter, with strap and winder and in your existing box, at 44.80 € per m² of direct cost before VAT: 37.14 € materials and 6.78 € labour, plus 0.88 € of ancillary costs (2 %). That is the technical floor. On top of it come travel, removing the old shutter and the margin of whoever does the job, so what you pay is quite a bit more.
Replacing it starts to make sense when several things come together: lots of broken or sun-damaged slats, a bent axle and twisted rails. And also if you want to switch from PVC to aluminium at the same time, or motorise it.
What VAT applies to a persiana repair?
In a home for private use, normally 10%. Repairs in homes go at the reduced rate if the materials supplied by the professional do not exceed 40% of the taxable base, according to the Spanish Tax Agency's FAQ on building work and repairs.
A new strap or a few slats easily meet that: the part costs little compared with the labour. With a motor it may not, because the motor weighs heavily in the invoice, and then it goes at 21%. If you rent the flat out, it is also 21%.
Get a fixed price before anyone comes
At Octo Service we agree a fixed price in writing before work starts. You send us a short video of the shutter going up or down and, if you can, a photo of the open box, and we send back the total with VAT. If it suits you, an independent professional who works with us goes to your home in Valencia city or the towns of l'Horta. If something that couldn't be seen turns up when the box is opened, you get a new proposal and you decide.
The persiana usually goes in the same visit as other small repairs: what is included is on the handyman in Valencia page, and what a handyman charges by the hour is in what a handyman costs in Spain. If you are not sure we reach your street, check do we reach your home?.
