Home faults: check before calling anyone
Pick what’s happening and answer as you go. They’re the same questions the person who’d come out would ask you on the phone: by the end you know whether you can fix it yourself in ten minutes or need someone with tools.
A socket isn't working
Socket has no power? Rule out the appliance, the extension lead and the fuse box before calling. If it smells of burning or is black, don't touch it.
AC leaking water
AC dripping outside is normal: it's condensation. If it drips indoors, check the filters, ice and the drain in that order, with the unit switched off.
Blocked sink or drain
Sink, basin or shower not draining: count how many drains are affected, try the plunger and the trap. No chemicals and nothing broken.
Leak under the kitchen sink
Turn the water off and find exactly where it's escaping: it's nearly always the trap or a flexible hose. Ten minutes tells you: tighten it or call.
The AC isn't cooling
Before paying for a gas recharge, check the remote, the filters and the outdoor unit: three far more common faults you can check yourself in ten minutes.
The AC won't turn on
If the air con won't turn on or ignores the remote, check the batteries, the mode, the fuse box breaker and the three-minute wait. No need to open it.
The power keeps tripping
A power trip can be the RCD, a circuit breaker or the power company's limiter. Find out which one it is without putting a hand inside the fuse box.
The toilet keeps running
If the toilet cistern runs non-stop, the fill valve or the flush valve has failed. Lid off and ten minutes: you'll know which one and if you can fix it.
The water heater isn't heating
Water heater not heating? Check the breaker, the temperature dial and limescale, in that order. No covers off: in ten minutes you'll know what's wrong.
What this is for
Half the problems at home fix themselves: an RCD that trips because of an old washing machine, a loose trap that drips when the sink fills up, air con that won’t cool because the filter is clogged. You don’t need to pay for that, and we’re not going to pretend otherwise just to get you to call.
The other half do need someone, and the test helps there too: you reach the form knowing what to tell us, and whoever comes out knows what to bring in the van. Neither costs you anything, and the test doesn’t ask for your phone number or email.
We work in Valencia and l’Horta. If your town isn’t on the list, ask us: we’ll tell you whether we cover it or not.
